Man Made Diamonds - What Are They?

When selecting the perfect ring for the perfect occasion, a synthetically manufactured diamond can be the right choice. As the technologies improve so does the quality of the man made diamond. There are a couple of different ways man has developed to recreate diamonds.

The first uses a high temperature/high pressure environment to simulate the inside of a volcano. As you know diamonds are found when mining for coal, coming from the carbon contained inside coal. Scientists have been able to create high quality diamond simulates. These manufactured diamonds are exactly the same in chemical composition as nature’s finest diamonds. This process is primarily used in mass production for abrasives.

The second uses a controlled laboratory gardening environment. Small diamond particles are put in a fusion chamber forming a plasma cloud of carbon. As the cloud begins to cool, diamond seedlings rain from the cloud. This process can be manipulated by introducing a couple of boron atoms, resulting in a spectacular blue diamond. Scientists have the ability to filter out impurities creating a virtually flawless diamond.

The third and final method, uses the high temp/high pressure method but introduces both diamond and sapphire particles. Through the fusion process these precious gems make a diamond simulant. The most popular man made diamond simulant is the cubic zirconium which was first created in 1976. The cubic zirconium has made it possible for even the tightest budget to afford a beautiful diamond engagement ring.

Man made diamonds are created from diamond crystals, even in the case of simulants. Some of the most famous diamonds are man made such as the Apollo. What woman wouldn’t love an Apollo for her engagement ring. Just remember the man made diamond is more expensive than a diamond simulant. Through technology diamonds can truly be a girl’s best friend.
