Have you or anyone you know purchased an e-ring online? I'm sure there are some good reasons why someone would, it's just none are coming to mind.

My fiance went with a online retailer. Just make sure you do your research first. The website he ordered from (Dacarli) had a great return policy and the diamond is GIA certified. The ring actually looks even better in person than the pictures online. Our local retailers just didn't have the selection like the online store.
Here's the link to my ring--> http://www.dacarli.com/engagement/antique/engagement-rings/diamond-accents/engagement-rings-milgrain
...And many more like it at Dacarli.com

Yes!

Buying an engagement ring online is great for many reasons. For one, you can save a ton of money. Most online retailers can offer much better prices for their diamonds and rings because they have little overhead.

Also, another great reason to buy online is because there is so much more to choose from. Online stores are not limited to what can fit into a store.

Once you know what you want, I would definitely suggest buying it online. You'll save money, have the ease of shopping online, and you'll be able to find exactly what you want.

Mine was bought on-line!

Bergan's picture

My now hubby hunted on-line for my ring, buying it from a store that also has Highstreet stores (sadly the one in our very town had just closed, after being there years!) He liked that he could zoom right in and look at the ring from many angles, upclose, in the comfort of his own home, with out being pestered and pressured into a sale from staff on commision or whatever (Not saying all staff are pushy! But some can be!) - so could view as many rings as he wanted, at his own leisure to make the perfect choice. He hates shopping, trawling round shops - had he had to do this the ring may not have been as well sited as he may have got impatinet looking, or pressured into buying one he wasn't sure about. Plus our city (Durham, in the United Kingdom, is actually more a small town so very limited choice of shops for rings) Obviously once he received it, he could return it, if he didn't like it. It came with a free replate in its first year, so got it replated ready for when we got married so it was extra shiny and new looking for the day, to out next to my wedding ring, once married. He chose and bought the ring secretly, searching the net whilst I was at work and I love it so much! It had the added bonus of being on promotion so was a massive saving for him (althouh he insist this was not the main reason he bouht it and he would have paid full price! :-) ) , which was good when we planned to marry so soon after and wanted money for the wedding! I like that I have a ring I love, worth double what he paid for it, without the guilt of him having had to pay that much!

Exquisite Engagement Ring

vanessa's picture

Hi RingEnvy fans, I was recently engaged to my boyfriend of 5 years after proposing with a diamond ring. At first, he didnt want to say where he got it from and just said it was customized. After insisting, he revealed that he got it from a LA-based Japanese custom jewelry designer named TAKAYAS MIZUNO. The ring was exquisite! Vanessa

DIAMONDS ONLINE

PrettyGirlDaRockStar's picture

I know someone who bought their Wife's engagement ring online and it was a nice ring but his was a man-made diamond instead of a natural diamond.

Man-made meaning manufactured in a lab. I've done some research because I considered online buying as well & they say there is nothing wrong with the man-made diamonds but I just prefer a natural diamond.

If it makes a difference to you make sure you are getting a natural diamond before you purchase.

Affordable Engagement Rings

tammy009's picture

When couples are shopping for engagement rings, they might have something particular in mind, but most often they look at a wide range of engagement ring settings - the precious metal that makes up the band and the mounting that holds the stone in place. Engagement ring settings are a very personal choice and there are many from which to choose. Unless a bride-to-be is being surprised with an engagement ring, she should try on a variety of rings to see which engagement ring setting best suits her hand ... and of course which one she likes the most!

Good price for high quality

EliseK's picture

I personally like to be surprised myself, but with something as special as the ring I'm going to wear for the rest of my life I had to make sure it was the style, shape and size I felt comfortable with. We searched high and low for online retailers and finally decided on Dacarli.com. They had the selection and prices to match our budget. I ended up with a beautiful princess cut diamond and a vintage style setting with accent diamonds. I would highly recommend.

From personal experience...

Blue Nile is an amazing company with high quality diamonds and customer service.  We've even had to return a diamond, which you assume will be difficult, but it was very simple.  They have a massive inventory too...online might not sound as romantic BUT shouldn't be less about where it came from and more about the person giving it to you :)

We bought online Nina Elle Jewels

SilverD222's picture

We found our jeweler online and she happened to be local. I would sing her praises anywhere I could. Some online sellers are very impersonal and just want to sell you a ring. Nina Elle Jewels was very helpful and even educated us on the different stone options. We felt very comfortable with the whole transaction and got a great deal. I love my ring and bands and couldn't be happier! This is such a huge purchase and you just have to be comfortable with the company you buy from. My advice is do some research and see what kind of feel you get from different online sellers. I would recommend Nina Elle Jewels as a place to start :)

Buying Custom from Maxed Out Diamonds

Hi, my fiance had my engagement ring custom made for me with a company called Maxed Out Diamonds. He said the process was really easy and very, very cost effective. They are way cheaper than Blue Nile for instance. I've listed their website below. Hope that helps!

Buying online is a great way to get buy an affordable engagement ring. You can get a great engagement ring for less than you would pay in a traditional jewelry store and you do not have to run around hoping that a jewelry store will have what you are looking for! All of rings come with a a certificate of authenticity.

We bought our diamond online and then took it to a custom jeweler. Best decision we ever made. The ring was appraised for $15k but we didn't pay anywhere close to that because we bought the diamond from a wholesaler! They checked the diamond too and it was legit - great steal!

I've purchased diamonds online

cdiamonds's picture

I have purchased a diamond ring online and as long as they provide GIA certification, good, clear pictures and have a reasonable return policy, it's well worth it. Some of the wholesalers can offer deals that you just can't find in a jewelry store; mine has been appraised for well above what we paid. Do your research, and make sure it's a reliable source- also make sure that they show a clear picture (preferably several) of the ring or stone you will actually get, not an example of the type. If they don't show the pictures on their website, email and ask for them. If they refuse that's a good sign that you shouldn't buy from them. It's especially good if you're looking for a wide variety of large or fancy colour diamonds- most jewelry stores don't have much variety to choose from when it comes to the rarer stones. Like I mentioned, if they provide certification from GIA, then you know what you're getting (but make sure they will send you all the original certification paperwork as well once you make your purchase). Hope this helps, and good luck!

I am encouraged that so many people were successful with buying a ring online. It is very possible. You just have to be careful you know enough about the ring vendor.

I bought my center stone online

rachylinks's picture

We bought my center stone online and I am very very happy that we did.
We looked in handfuls of local jewelry stores and I hated the experience which forced me to look online. I was initially very sceptical about buying online, but I found a couple of sites which I liked and had a great choice of diamonds and rings. I found a diamond on a website called www.haveyouseenthering.com

I found a diamond that was in my price range but was set in a ring that I hated. I was able to make an offer to the seller and after making a counter offer or two my bid was accepted. When the diamond arrived I was blown away by the size and sparkle, I managed to get it for 60% less than the price quoted to me by my local jewelers.
I then found the setting I wanted from Adiamor www.adiamor.com and then had my local jeweler set the diamond into the ring. My fiancee is very happy as I saved him a bundle!
If you do your research, buying online is safe and can save you a lot of money. But make sure you due diligence first!!

Across the board, it is

yesshewill's picture

Across the board, it is becoming more and more normal to make big purchases online because of the advances in online security features that protect your financial information. Also, just do your research. Talk to someone on the company or ask trusted friends of their experience buying online. Also, there is a good chance to get a better price online because there is less over head for online retailers.

Good luck

buying diamonds on eBay

lotusdusa's picture

There are definitely benefits of buying online. 1) You generally get better deals since the jeweler is not paying for a showroom. Ebay is also an excellent place, and their buyer protection program fully insures the diamond.

I like sites that also have a physical location.

xander1985's picture

I like sites that also have a physical location. It's true shopping online you there is a savings factor, and I am usually fine buying online just as long as they have a real store front. Think about it, a business owner who operates a brick and mortar store would be out of business if they cheat consumers. Online it is way to easy to get away with cheating or misrepresenting something to a customer and not losing their reputation over it. Usually if they are are B&M store and expanded online they are practicing there business under the same business principals. I personally used a local jewelers online site to buy our rings. Cheaper and had a good reputation in the Tampa area. There site is www.alexisdiamonds.com. Good luck

Hello! I've had clients who have had mixed experiences with purchasing their engagement ring online. It can be risky, as proven by thousands of people sharing their horror stories online, but there are also lots of instances where you can be successful.
