I'm about to start shopping for engagement rings and I've been reading conflicting information about which (white) metal I should be looking for.  Some people say that the only difference between white gold and platinum is the price, but I've also heard that platinum is more precious and more "symbolically significant."  Price is not really a concern, but I'm wondering if there is anything else that makes platinum better?
