Destination Weddings

Bianca's picture

Has anyone had a destination wedding?  Ours will be in Cabo San Lucas, if all goes as planned, at a place that will remain unnamed until we finalize things (no free publicity for them yet), and Im sure there are things I need to do - like put together some sort of vacationing itinerary for everyone when they arrive, or send out invites really early...but does anyone have any other tips?  Magaizines do not really cover destination wedding tips...HELP please.

We originally were using the services of www.destinationweddings.com and were going to have our wedding in Riviera Maya, Mexico.  All it costs is $50.00 to join the site, and they take care of EVERYTHING free of charge!  They are amazing!  Loved them!

We did Puerto Vallarta...

We had a destination wedding in Puerto Vallarta at Las Caletas.  It was done through Vallarta Adventures and I was extremely impressed with everything they did.  I believe that company has presence in Cabo now too!  Are you set on Cabo?  If Puerto Vallarta could be an option, I can't recommend Las Caletas enough...it's paradise!  Check out --

Cabo - http://www.cabo-adventures.com/groups-weddings/index.htm

You can take a look at our pics if you want also, may help with ideas... http://janelleandjustin.com/pictures  - check out: Ride to the Wedding, Day at Las Caletas, Wedding Reception, Mexico Reception.  All of those events were organized through Vallarta Adventures.

Let me know if you have any questions!  I'd love to help in any way...Cheers!

P.S. I just realized how many pics are on our website!  Here is a more concise album - http://picasaweb.google.com/janelleevans/EvansJancaricWeddingPictures?authkey=Gv1sRgCOi9mZr9y7qQuQE&feat=directlink

You looked beautiful on your wedding day :) Thank you for telling me about Cabo Adventures.  I was getting worried about what to do with all our guests.  I understand we should have event options ready for them when they check in - this might provide me with a valuable short cut.

Your pictures gave me a few other great ideas - the butterfly release and the fire dancers - love those ideas. People must have squeeled!

Did you have any problems with getting people to fly out there?  We are thinking some are really going to embrace the idea and take it as a weekend vacation, and others might really struggle because they can't afford to take any time off.

BTW,  I loved your pictures (mind sharing the name of your photog?).

Thanks!  We had a fantastic time, wish we could do it all over again.  I'm jealous that you still have everything to look forward to!  Haha.

As for people flying out there, there were a few issues.  For instance, our grandparents didn't want to travel to Mexico so they didn't come.  And 1 good friend was unable to make it because of finances.  But everyone else that we were close to was there...I think there were 40 of us.  We also had a reception back in Chicago so that people didn't feel obligated to travel all the way to Mexico if they couldn't.  The core group was everyone that we really cared about being there though, just close friends and immediate family, and they all made a long weekend out of it.  Where are you traveling from?

Oh, our photographer was Elizabeth Lloyd.  She was fantastic!  She's from NY but lives in Puerto Vallarta now.  I highly recommend her.  Website: www.elfoto.org

P.S. The firedancers were AMAZING!  I highly recommend doing that too =)

Thank you for the Info

Im going to check Elizabth's website out.  I'd love to save on expenses by hiring a more local photographer.  Thanks for the double reception idea.  That sounds like it might accomdate a lot our our people.  We're flying from Los Angeles, and Los Angeles to Cabo San Lucas is about 2 hours, but we've got a few people flying out from the East Coast, so Mexico is a ways away.

Im not going to lie - I love buying new wedding magazines and oogling over the pictures, thinking up of ways to incorporate them on our big day.  Its a great thing to look forward too.  I just wish we had a few more things settled.  I get a little anxious about the "pace" of business transactions/emails/general responsiveness with this hotel.

Thanks again for all the info!!!   :)
