The proposal

My boyfriend (now fiance) of a year and a month had discussed getting married with me a few times. We met at work, spent almost every day together, outside of work, traded messages and gifts on facebook, called and left messages all kinds of things like that. I know that he had been looking at engagement rings, but figured he may buy it now, but I probably won't get it for a while, because he had just purchased a very pretty promise ring for me as an anniversary gift. So one night at work, ( we work at walmart) we were taking our last break and I went to go into his pants pocket to grab a lipgloss that he had been holding for me and I found a box. I flipped out and got really embarassed. He didn't ask, merely moved the box and didn't say anything. At that point I thought I had blown it. He wasn't going to ask and we were going to break up. The next few days, he acted as if nothing had happened, and I was on edge every day. Finally at work, I just couldn't take it anymore and while we were on break started to argue. He seemed very upset that I had sneaked down to see him and was almost in tears. We were bickering as we were headed out to the lounge area when he stopped by the paint booth, by a phone. I was like "Oh come on already, I'm tired I want to go sit down and put my feet up." He said " Just wait a minute." Then he picked up the phone and clicked on the PA. He said. "Attention walmart customers and associates this is Matt from L+G and today I have a very important question to ask Miss Jennifer Lynn." Then he got down on one knee, still holding the phone, pulled out the ring, and asked "Will you marry me?" He handed me the phone I looked at it, just kind of in shock and then gulped and said Yes! I hung up the phone and alot of people started paging their congratulations and our managers stopped and offered their congrats etc. And then a customer approached us and asked if it was us. We replied yes and she was like that's so romantic. Now where can I find toilet seats? --I have had 3 engagement rings now, because the one he proposed with a stone fell out and then one of the prongs broke. We sent it to be fixed and got it back and I had it on for maybe five minutes and the same stone fell out again. So we returned it. He got me another one, a cz (which I didn't mind, because I knew we didn't have money at the time and it was just a hold over) which everyone loved. Finally this past june, right around my 21st birthday we went to Kays and picked up the ring pictured here. I love it, its very sparkly and pretty. For christmas we have an enhancer picked out and it really makes the whole thing worthwhile. I don't care that its only a half a carat, because he matters so much more than my ring. He offered to upgrade, and we have the option to, but I'm not sure if I ever will actually do it, because I love my ring so much. (wow i really rambled, sorry bout that)

Hello all! Here is the ring I won from the Mark Broumand giveaway contest here on ringenvy a few weeks ago. It finally arrived in the mail and I'm so excited! I'm wearing it as a right hand ring. They did not have topaz in my size (5) so I got the aquamarine instead. Enjoy!

He took me to the construction site of the house we are building to look around. We went up to the master bedroom, and on a support beam where the bed would be was an open box with the ring. He got down on one knee and said he wanted to start our lives together in our new house and asked if I'd marry him. It was perfect.

The proposal

Originally we planned to go downtown Chicago to see the play 'A Christmas Carol' at Goodman Theater to kick off the holiday season together. Donnie decided to make plans to go down for the whole weekend so we could shop, look at Christmas decorations, have a nice romantic dinner for two and stay at the historic Intercontinental Hotel on Michigan Ave.... Marriage was something that we often discussed, even though it had been just a year since we met on Match.com. (YES, we met on Match and YES, it does work!) Anyway, I knew (without question) that i had found my soul mate, my other half, my true love. I also knew that we would sooner then later get engaged. Maybe even during our weekend in the city. But I NEVER, I mean NEVER, would have thought it would happen like this. . . . After being stuck in traffic for two hours on the night of December 6, 2008, we finally made it to our Hotel. We had dinner reservations for Capital Grille at 8:30pm. But, we also wanted to go to Christkindlmarket at Daley Plaza to do some shopping and see the famous Christmas tree. I rushed to get ready, and by 7:00pm(ish) we were out the door, catching a cab in very cold, windy and snowy weather- typical Chicago. But, we were determined stick to our plan! Once we got to Daley Plaza we knew we had about an hour to tour the Christkindlmarket and get some pics by the giant tree. We wandered the market, and then eventually made it over to the tree. I suggested that we find someone to take a picture of us. But, before I could find someone to take our picture, Donnie came and stood right in front of me under the tree. He took his gloves of and fumbled around in his coat pocket. I asked him what he was doing, he didnt answer. Instead, he said to me "Allison, you make me the happiest person in the world. Not a day goes by that I don't fall more in love you." Then he got down on one knee, held a beautiful ring and said "I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?" . . . . OF COURSE I SAID YES!! (between my sobs and omg's!) People around us were applauding and congratulating us. In the corner of my eye I saw someone taking pictures of us. Donnie said "look over there, that guy is taking our pic". Weird, I thought, but I was in such a daze of excitement I would've done anything at that point. Then Donnie walked over to the photographer taking all these of us pics and gave him a hug! The guy took off the ski mask he was wearing, and to my absolute surprise, it was Donnie's Uncle Paul from Texas!!! I shrieked and asked what he was doing there. He said he was there on a business trip, and he found out Donnie was going to propose so he thought he would come get some pics of it for us! I asked if he could come to dinner, but we only had reservations for two. :( So we walked with Uncle Paul down the street to find a cab. I did noticed several Cabs the other way, but they insisted that we went the way we were going. I still was dazed and didn't think anything of it. (and I couldn't stop staring at my beautiful ring!!!!!) Uncle Paul pointed out a Trolley parked ahead, and suggested that we take a pic in front of it. As we walked toward it, to my complete shock and surprise, there was a giant banner across the side of the trolley that said 'CONGRATULATIONS DONNIE AND ALLISON! NEWLY ENGAGED!!!' Then I looked up in the trolley, and inside were both of our families smiling down at us. . . After lots of tears of joy, pictures and champagne, we headed off in the beautiful trolley. The driver took us over by the lake so we could get some pictures of us with the Chicago skyline in back. Then I asked 'what about Capital Grille!?' They all laughed, and told me that we weren't going to eat there. Instead Donnie and his parents set up an amazing private dinner for all of us at Le Colonial on their terrace. After hor dourves, drinks and an amazing several course French dinner it finally began to all sink in. I looked around at our families laughing, talking and taking pictures together. I looked at my beautiful ring. I looked at my amazing FIANCE and realized I just became the luckiest girl in the world!!!

The proposal

He was set on making the engagement special and he did an amazing job of that! He told her the week before that she needed to take the following Friday off but would not tell her anything else. A couple days later, he started giving her little clues; however, it was not until Thursday that she found out they were on their way to Napa Valley that Friday morning. He had everything planned out famously. They stayed in an extraordinarily romantic resort, the Carneros Inn, in their own "cottage". The afternoon of their arrival, they had spa appointments and then dinner reservations in Sonoma. The next morning, they were off for a day of wine tasting. Since Napa was the first trip the pair ever took together, it already held a special place in both of their hearts. Especially the first winery they visited two years prior - Sterling. They decided to start the day at Sterling again and he popped the question in the gondola ride up to the top of the winery! It was completely private with wonderful views of the valley and vineyards and was the perfect place for her to say, "Of course!" They spent the rest of the day celebrating and wine tasting at various venues in the valley. It was the perfect day!
