When I first started to design my engagement ring, I knew I wanted it to be classic and fabulous. This ring was custom made and the whole process took 4 months. We bought the loose diamond in the jewelry district of downtown Los Angeles. Getting insurance on this thing took about 2 weeks of research. I looked everywhere for the perfect setting. I went in to this process thinking I wanted a simple solitaire. However, once I saw all the sparkles, I knew I wanted more. Although my design looks simple, it was very hard to find what I was looking for. I ended up finding the setting I was looking for in Los Gatos, CA (Northern Cali) at a store called Belgian Diamonds. I knew it when I saw it. The company that made my ring was Tycoon located in Glendale, CA (So Cal). I worked with the designer for over 2 months. They first sent me a graphic design and then they did a wax molding for me to look at. The stone is set high because I wanted to make sure my wedding band would be right next to it without a gap. The center stone is 4.09 carats and the small stones in the setting add up to 1.5 carats. It is hard to tell in the pictures but the band and halo are rounded. There are 3 rows of micro pave diamonds on the shank, 2 rows on the halo, and 1 row on the setting bars. There are 6 prongs, which was probably what the designer and I debated the most. After 4 1/2 years of dating and 4 months of ring designing, I finally have my man and my ring! And I love them both so much!!

The proposal

It was a Tuesday morning and my man told me I needed to be ready in an hour because we were going to be leaving the house for the day. Not having a clue where we were going, he did advise me to not wear heels! We ended up in Del Mar (San Diego, CA area) and I saw we were about to take a hot air balloon ride! Since this was not our normal Tuesday excursion, I knew the proposal was coming. We were in the air for about 5 minutes before I saw the pilot give Devon the thumbs up in the corner of my eye. He got down on one knee 6000 feet in the air and popped the question. It was slightly awkward since the pilot was about a foot away from us in the basket, but I loved every second of it. As for the hot air balloon ride, it was terrifying!! But so worth it.... :-) Once we landed we were greeted by a cop for being on private property and a bottle of champagne to celebrate. We are planning a 20 month engagement since his sister and my sister will be having their weddings next year. This way we all get our special moments. Our wedding is going to be a destination wedding in Bora Bora at the Four Seasons in September of 2013!!

The proposal

Exactly three years from our first date! We planned to go out to dinner, Stephen came home and I was finding something to wear. Stephen put the ring he gave me for our first anniversary on my left ring finger (I always wear it on my right and had a dream about him proposing by switching it to my left hand) I laughed and said that doesn't go there, switched it and turned around to finish getting ready. Stephen said, "How about this then?" I turned around to find him on one knee with the most beautiful ring! He asked me to marry him and I said, "Of course!" I couldn't wait to tell my parents but much to my surprise Stephen had already spoken to my dad. We waited to tell Stephen's parents and the rest of our families until after dinner. It was perfect for us!

The proposal

We were camping on the Nieces River as we often do, he had been designing the ring and planning this for over two months since he couldnt find anything that he liked. We went for a walk after dinner, we laid on our rock in the middle of the river and under the night sky full of stars, he asked me. I was so shocked, I forgot to take the ring or say yes, I cried and hugged him and finally responded. Wow!
