advice about costa rica?

My fiance and I have decided to honeymoon in Costa Rica. There are so many cities with many different accomodations and various beaches, we need some first-hand information because we are planning the trip ourselves. Any recommendations or complaints? Thanks!

Hi,
First of all, please disregard some of the things that Gideonkiteon said: Costa Ricans DO NOT hate Americans. Quite the contraty, as a matter of fact. If it were like the previous poster said tourism would not be Costa Rica’s biggest economic activity. There are also some other inconsistencies, but they are not worth mentioning again.
Now, regarding safety issues, it is always good to be conservative. Use your common sense: do not leave valuables in a locked car or in your room. Most hotels will have safe deposit boxes - use them. Do not travel at night (drive) and if you are walking around town make sure that you know where you are going and that it is an OK area.
As for the best of Costa Rica, there is no single spot where you can find everything. Do some research, go to Frommer’s or Fodor’s and read a bit about the different regions of Costa Rica. By the way, there is NO POLITICAL turmoil on the Atlantic Coast. The previous poster must have been thinking of a different country.
Good luck,
Carlos

I recommend you stay wher the 50,000 Canadians live. You are sure to have a fun and safe time.

There are some great places in Costa Rica I can suggest. First, make sure you rent a 4×4 truck, SUV, etc. if you don’t you will not be able to travel many of the roads to the remote, great spots. I would suggest going to Volcan Arenal. There are great cabinas there, and the volcano is always active. it errupts at sunset, and is awe-inspiring to say the least, absolutely fantastic. Also check out the rain forest (the name escapes me now) also unbelievable with free range monkeys, you can hike to an awesome waterfall, and the humming birds are outrageous. Oh, it’s Monteverde. Also check out the beaches, usually no one is there and great fun for skinny dipping, swimming, etc. There is another spot called Hernandez, I could be wrong about name but it’s on the beach also and loads of fun. Make sure you take sunscreen and heavy duty OFF or something stronger or you will be eaten alive. Remeber, the natives of Costa Rica hate Americans, so be careful of the advice they give you, and never stop for someone in distress, sounds cold, but 99% of the time it’s a scam. Stay on the pacific side also, there is too much political upheaval on the atlantic side, and do not go too far north either. Well, hope this helps some, good luck and have a great trip.
