My husband and I will be having our ceremonial wedding in Cairns australia in October 2008 but there is SO much to see and do. What would be your top 5 can’t miss in Cairns/Sydney area? How’s the weather there at this time? We were def. planning on seeing the Great Barrier Reef, Daintree Rainforest, and the butterfly Garden… what are the good beaches/ spas/ restuarants/islands…fairly priced. What about the surrounding areas Cairns like Port Douglas and I wont even start with trying to decide what to do in Sydney. Iam looking for beauty, serenity, and once-in-a-lifetime experience, romance (honeymoon), fun, a good tan, beautiful sunsets/nightskies- landscapes and scenery, I love taking photos. Mark is looking for fun, romance, adventure, and relaxation. What hotels offer honeymoon packages sweets? I can’t find anything real good online sept…chocolates and wine on arrival…any suggestions?

I live in Cairns so will give you info from this ‘dot’ on the globe. I can’t stop at a top 5 though, too many great attractions in Cairns!
Palm Cove is the most popular to stay at for a pair of romantics like you ! http://www.palmcove.net - they have plenty of wedding packages and great restaurants there on the Esplanade.
A trip out on the reef to Green Island - http://www.greatadventures.com.au or http://www.greenisland.com.au
or right out on the Outer Reef Activity Platform - with buffet lunch - well worth it !
About Green Island here - http://www.greenislandresort.com.au
You can snorkel out on the reef, take a glass bottom boat, for something real different try the scubadoo - http://www.scubadoocairns.com or seawalker http://www.seawalker.com.au/english_site - all great experiences there is half day trips or full day.
The skyrail http://www.skyrail.com.au takes you up to the rainforest village of Kuranda. (you wanted to see the butterfly sanctuary there, http://www.australianbutterflies.com ) http://www.kuranda.org - or take the skyrail up one way and train back down to the city. Kuranda Scenic Railway http://www.ksr.qr.com.au
Daintree Discovery Centre – Walking in the rainforest etc - http://www.daintree-rec.com.au The Canopy is amazing!
Paronella Park - it is 1.5 hr from Cairns but WELL worth it if you want romance and GREAT photos - they give you an tour and talk you through the history, an amazing place. http://www.paronellapark.com.au
Port Douglas is about a 50 min drive from Cairns city – worth it for the scenery.
http://www.portdouglaseguide.com or http://www.vcentres.com.au/port-douglas
There are more than 30 beaches between Cairns and Port Douglas alone, and most of them past Ellis Beach are practically deserted.
The Cairns Esplanade is only a couple years old, free access to large lagoon swimming are right in town! http://www.cairnsesplanade.com/gallery.html you are spoilt for choice of restaurants on the main strip there also. Cairns Central Mall is a 10 min walk from the Esplanade for your shopping
Enjoy your stay !
