Can I get some ideas on inexpensive but classy wedding favors? Maybe some I can make on my own.?

I’m trying to help plan my own wedding. I’ve never been to a wedding myself. It’s in August and I’m trying to get the last minute touches done. If anyone knows of where i can go online to find some nice place cards for the tables at the reception i would appreciate that too. Also any website with good pricing for weekend wedding packages, for a honeymoon. We were looking to go to jamaica.

The homemade chocolate suckers that my mother made were a huge hit with the children at my wedding. You can see an example here:

You can find the molds here:

Go to theknot.com They have a lot of really good ideas. I did small organza bags filled with jordan almonds (jordan almonds are common for weddings) and attached a card with a little saying to each bag, they were very pretty.
I recently went to a wedding that had a candy bar (it’s a buffet of candy) You just make or buy some cute little bags and personalize them and everyone goes up and fills their own bag with whatever they like from your selection. It was a big hit!

You can definitely make your own centerpieces and wedding favors. Decide on the overall colors and go nuts at the dollar stores. The best I’ve seen consisted of glass jars filled with colored gems and either fake flowers or floating candles in them.

Consider donating money to charity instead of having favors. You can then place a card on each table that reads "In lieu of favors, a donation has been made to Blank Charity"
It’s hassle free, and you’re helping a worthy cause. Plus, most people don’t even use the favors, and a lot of people don’t remember to take them.
Just something to consider - best of luck with your plans!

My wedding favors were inexpensive and everybody bragged about them afterwards. I took pink plastic spoons, put two hersheys kisses on the spoon the put tulle over it and tied it with a ribbon. I attached a note that read, "a spoonful of kisses from the new Mr. & Mrs."

When I got married I did my own wedding favors also. I bought "Wine Bottle Stoppers". They had a heart on the top and I put them in silky little bags with the string that you can tighten up. Tied the ribbon around the top and whalaa! They went for .89 a piece. Everyone loved them. Go to:

http://www.google.com and put in the search "Cheap Wedding Favors. There are so many out there. Good Luck Hon!

I’m not sure what kind of wedding favors you’re looking to do, but on M&M’s website you can choose from 26 colors of M&M’s and have them print messages on them. You could put them in small bags and tie them with ribbon.

Some of my friends did a CD of the wedding music they played for gifts. It was nice.
Individual chocolates and fudge, different kinds. You could supply the bags and let them pick what they would like from a tray.
I would definately try a travel agent, they really don’t charge much and most of the time they have traveled to the destination and can give you tips from experience.
Jamaica is beautiful, just decide it you want to go to a place where you have to stay in the resort the whole time or if you want to beable to travel around and check out the area. Jamaica is not save and you really have to stay on your resort. Check out Cabo, Mexico. It’s safe and beautiful and inexpensive, the achitecture is amazing.

We bought bubbles and then I hand tied ribbons on them in our wedding colors. Most favors are left on the table or tossed in the trash after the guests get home. We want people to blow bubbles at us at the end of the reception when we are leaving instead of them throwing bird seed at us.
We are going on a 7 day cruise in the Caribbean. We are going to Jamaica, Cayman Islands, and Cozumel Mexico. My soon to be hubby purchased the honeymoon stuff so I don’t know exactly how much it is costing us.

They’re "green". Lots of natural fibers, capiz shells, etc. and affordable.
It’s good to make your own as well, but, I wouldn’t sweat it unless you got lots of time on your hands and you got the talent and some people to help. Weddings are stressful enough without having to worry about making the favors. Good luck.

I actually think it will help, rather than hurt, you that you’ve never been to a wedding, because then your wedding will just be from your own heart, rather than an unintentional copy of every other wedding you’ve ever seen. It kind of gives you a fresh perspective.
I want to give you some very important advice, though- since you’ve never been to a wedding, many vendors are going to prey on your "wedding virgin" status and try to convince you that everything they try to sell you is of the utmost importance. While some things about a wedding are definitely must-have items, like good music, good food, a reasonable amount of free alcohol, and the Electric Slide (trust me on this one), other things invented by the "wedding industry" are far less essential, and are at best just trendy things that everyone else in the world is having these days, like elaborate favors, candy buffets, and over-the-top centerpieces. Just stick with what your gut tells you and try to decide on what is really essential to your wedding by asking yourself, "If I went to a wedding and they didn’t have ______, would I notice?" If the answer is no, then you probably don’t need it.
For your question about the wedding favors, everyone I have talked to agrees that the best favors are edible ones- think candy, a particular food item that is indigenous to your hometown or honeymoon destination, etc. Among my favorite edible favors are personalized M&M’s. You can get them at http://www.mym&ms.com, and they are actual brand-name M&M’s that you can get personalized with your names and/or wedding date where the little "m" usually goes. It doesn’t cost too much- about $35 for a bag of M&M’s that could be divided into little favor boxes for about 50 people or so. Check it out!
Also, for your honeymoon planning, I’m not sure if they do Jamaica, but Apple Vacations is definitely worth checking out. They offer all-inclusive air and hotel packages that, in some destinations, even include food and drinks at the hotel. go to http://www.applevacations.com.
Lastly, the place cards- did you realize that you can make a place card out of virtually anything? You can just get the standard ones at any party supply or paper goods store (try Party City- they have nice stuff at a great price!) or, if you want to get a bit more creative, you can head to a craft store and pick up some items to make into place cards, that fit your theme or overall wedding vibe. For instance, if you were doing a beach-themed wedding, you could make place cards out of shells. I’ve also seen place cards made out of adorable, inexpensive tiny picture frames with the guest’s name in the center where the picture would go. That can actually double as a favor, when the guests take the frames with them when they go. Just remember that at the end of the reception, the place cards will pretty much be trashed if they’re the standard paper ones, and their primary function is to just direct people to their tables. Once they’ve served their purpose they’re pretty much useless, so don’t expend too much time and money buying/making them. As long as they stand up on the tables and tell the guests where to go, they will do just fine. Congrats, and have a lovely wedding!

Go to pwponline.com. They are a favors supply site. They have a great selection on favors and place cards to match your wedding themes or colors (and cheap too!). You can also find other wedding and ceremony supplies there. Congratulations and hope this helps!
