• Honeymoon HELP please. I’m in a dilemma…?

I’m getting married in September of next year. We aren’t one of those couples who are made of money. We actually have to save to have our wedding and honeymoon. We were thinking about taking a cruise but with the recent hurricanes we have changed our minds. September is hurricane season and I don’t want to be biting my nails wondering if I will have to deal with that.
Then we thought Vegas…lots of fun. But by the time we book our flights and hotel we have already spent TWO grand and that doesn’t even include food or any events…JUST the hotel and flight. We could get a cruise for the same price and that includes shows, food, and more than one destination.
We live in a small town in central Illinois where people are just average. Most people work in factories and none of us have tons of money. A honeymoon is a big deal to us and we want it to be special and unique,..but we are also on a budget.
We don’t have any specific destination ideas and we are fine with any type of climate(sunny, cool, whatever). Any suggestions are welcome and VERY appreciated. Thank you so much!

I am getting married next fall too. One thing I looked into was this awesome thing called a honeymoon registry. Google it. You book your honeymoon, (you could talk to a travel agent, tell them this is what we can spend, where can we go) and then people can choose to help you with your honeymoon instead of buy you gifts. They can choose to pay for one night stay at the hotel, or one meal. Look it up, its cool. As far as where to go, ask a travel agent. most times they dont charge you any more than you would pay because they get kickbacks from the company s…..hope this helps

I’m going to Disney World in November for my honeymoon and i think its going to be a great time! Epcot has all the different countries you can visit. We’re staying at the Animal Kingdom. Plus you’re in Florida and the beaches aren’t very far away!!!

cruise sounds good to me, or maybe hawii, just find coupons online or get the best deals. believe me, my dad got us to stay at the MGM in vegas (6) people for half price each. and once he registered for this deal that we would get to stay in vegas at the Hampton in for free, if we went (in vegas) to this place where they had a meeting to show these buildings. so trust me, you can get amazing deals, just gotta look into it

Vegas is going to be expensive because September is a big tourist month there. But I went there and didn’t spend much money at all. If you ear breakfast and then eat one big meal at a buffet, you only have to eat twice a day, and they are some that are sooooo good and still cheap.  A lot of shows are free and trust me, you will spend most of your time walking around the casinos looking at the beauty of them all.  Unless you plan on shopping or gambling, it can be pretty cheap.  Cruises are good too, unless you like to drink a lot.  Food is included and you can eat as much and whenever you want.  But you have to pay for alcohol and it is expensive.  Why not try something different and still fun, like a really neat town in the U.S. or Canada that you have always wanted to go?  You will have to do some major research.  Good Luck!

My husband and I paid for our own wedding. We could not afford to go on a honeymoon. We went to Disneyland a couple years later.
But if you are near California then Monterey is nice. We go there once a year, stay in a Bed and Breakfast and go to the aquarium, shop on Cannery Row. Then walk the beach, have a picnic of maybe wine cheese fruit and bread watch the sun set. Then the next day Carmel by the Sea is very nice to go to as well.
There is no law saying you have to have a honeymoon right after your wedding

I suggest you try a bed and breakfast inn. See site above.

There is nothing wrong with doing something affordable now. Then save up for a big trip in a year or two.

Obviously, an international honeymoon would be too much on your shoulders. I think you should fly to Southeast Alaska, and take a cruise around the Panhandle. You’ll see some great wildlife, and beautiful landscape. (But it rains alot, just to let you know.) And, as far as know, I don’t think hurricanes occur in Alaska.

A cruise would be a lovely idea, particularly if you did something like an Alaskan Cruise. I know a lot of people who go to places in the New England Area. There are more popular places like Niagra Falls (which is great) and the Poconos. Very romantic and amazingly beautiful in the fall. Plus, not too far. Actually within driving distance from Illinois plus you wouldn’t have to rent a car. You could also go find a bed and breakfast somewhere in the mountains or country. They are not that expensive and are so romantic and cozy, what better way to spend your honeymoon?

I got married last September and we had the same issue with money. We chose to go to California (we are in MA, so we flew across the country). We spent two nights in San Francisco, drove to Napa, 3 nights there and drove to Monterrey and spent another two nights. It was great because we got to explore city life and culture, then have a romantic few days exploring Napa and a few more on the coast at a B&B. It still cost us almost $2000, but we were as frugal as we could be. And your airfare would be much cheaper than ours. I used TripAdvisor.com to choose nice hotels, in good locations, which were affordable. If you are getting married towards the end of Sept, I also recommend my part of the country. Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine are beautiful that time of year for "leaf peeping" but you must book early. And you could also spend a couple nights in Boston for some city flavor…catch a Red Sox game. If you can only afford to go somewehre for a long weekend, then don’t worry about it. It’s all in what you make it! One of the most important tips I can give you is to say buy or rent a GPS from the car rental place. It will save you soooo much time being lost or bickering about being lost - which is NOT what you want to be doing on you honeymoon!

No matter where you choose to go I highly recommend Trip Advisor. Great reviews from real people, personal photos of sites, hotels and rooms; and forums where you can ask questions from local experts. Suggestions for every budget.

Have you looked at flying to LA and cruising up to alaska?

What about a NY-Canda Cruise. No hurricane worries there.

I would strongly suggest doing an all inclusive. You don’t have to worry about paying for food or drinks while you are there. You can get amazing deals in Sept. it all depends on where you go. While I wouldn’t suggest Cancun, Jamaica, the Dominican Republic… you can always do Puerto Vallarta or Cab San Lucas. We went to Puerto Vallarta for Thanksgiving last November and the weather was amazing. It was 80s, no rain, sunny and the water is a little rougher (which we loved because it was great for boogie boarding). I would suggest looking at the different resorts and what they have to offer. Most have evening shows and a disco. We like to stay places with unlimited a la cartes, but there are also people that prefer to do all buffets. I have posted some links below that I have used to book vacations at great deals.
