We were originally planning on destination wedding, but it’s going to be hard for our grandparents to be there and we obviously can’t have a wedding without our grandparents…so no the plan is to have nice wedding at home and then go on an awesome honeymoon. I think we are planning on getting married on or around September 18…he really wants to go on a cruise and I’m kind of scared of boats lol…and I know that there are tons of things to do on a cruise ship but I don’t really like the idea of kind of being stuck in one place for a week…I mean I know you get to explore your different port locations but I still would rather just go somewhere and spend a week there be able to do what I want when I want…anyway I just want to hear from some people who have been on a cruise for their honeymoon…would you recommend it? did you have enough privacy? Thanks!

I haven’t been on a cruise myself but what if you split the trip? For example; go to the Greek Islands and spend a couple days sailing the islands?

i hate cruses i get so sea sick and is for a week and you cant escape it. lol i much rather prefer going to a beach getaway and someplace where you don’t have to eat and do stuff on a schedule. its all island time

I didn’t go on a cruise for my honeymoon, but wish I had. I LOVE cruises. You have tons of privacy. Some ships have private dinner tables instead of large tables where you meet other people. Check into that before deciding which ship and which cruise line.

The cruises I’ve been on are like this. One was a shorter cruise (4 days). We only sailed at night. When we woke up we were in port and heading out on an excursion. We got back to the ship in time to shower and get ready for dinner. At night there was a show, swimming pool, games room, and so much to do that you literally can’t do everything.

The other cruise was longer and we were sailing to Alaska. It took one whole day plus two nights to get to our port. But during that day, we had plenty of activities. The rest of the days were spent on excursions again.

And about the sea sickness. Tons of people on ships have patches behind their ears. Others have Dramamine. We took Dramamine, but never needed it and I have motion sickness periodically.

The one day we didn’t dock, the ship was rocking and we all felt a little woozy, but never got ill. I think cruises are the perfect honeymoon trip.

Why dont you plan a trip where you spend 3 or 4 days on the ship and the rest of the week on an island. This way you both get what you want. For me…7 days on a cruise ship would be to much but 3 would be nice. I like waking up and being able to walk out and see a beach, go for walks and just lay on the beach.

Compromise….. Take a 3 or 4 day cruise from a city you’d like to visit. You get a taste of cruising where you can enjoy your privacy without the feeling of being trapped if you aren’t completely in love with your ship. I would go Royal Carribbean or pricier for the best experience. I’m not a fan of Carnival. It’s a lot to cheesy for me!

Check out the cruise section on Y!A. There is tons of advice about cruises there.

I totally feel you about the destination wedding. I wanted one so bad, but I backed out for the exact same reason, grandparents. They are elderly and I knew they wouldn’t be able to travel.

    Good luck!
