Is Kay Jewelers a good place to buy an engagement ring?

I have looked at a few places, Jared, Zales, Kays, yada yada yada and I found some good deals at Kays. If you were given a ring from Kays…would you be "disappointed". of course everyone is low on money, so obviously I cant afford a very expensive ring, but i can afford a little bit.
I was looking at 1 ct at kays and they were about 2000 to 3000. At Jared they were 4000 to 6000.
Yes I know the quality is better at Jared, but I simply cant afford it =(
So, as a girl, would you be offended or disappointed to have a ring from Kays?

You can do better with online resources in both quality and prices.
I got my wife’s ring at Diamond Brokers of Florida:
http://www.dbof.com/
Or you could check out these other online sources:
http://www.WhiteFlash.com
http://www.GoodOldGold.com
http://www.ExcelDiamonds.com
http://www.BlueNile.com
Blue Nile’s database is good, but they don’t provide you with photos or analysis reports (ASET, Isee2, B-scope, etc) of the diamond. I wouldn’t go with them for that reason.
Happy hunting.

Heck no I wouldn’t be disappointed! If the woman loves you she’ll be happy with ANYthing you give her. I got my engagement ring from Kay’s and let me tell you, it is GORGEOUS!

I wouldn’t even notice. I don’t care where he gets my engagement ring from or how much it was as long as he was thinking about me and trying!

I would absolutely NOT be dissapointed. It came from the heart with a promise of love for a lifetime…doesn’t matter if it came out of a gumball machine, lol!!
I’m sure she will love it
Congrats!

Kay’s is very nice. That is where I got mine from and I believe they have the Leo Diamond there which is supposed to be really nice.

I would be a little disappointed with Kay, not because it’s bad quality but just because it’s not unique, everyone has rings from the mall jeweler…my ring is from a local jeweler that just has his one shop and I love it because it’s unique. You might want to consider BlueNile.com, they have a build-your own ring feature that’s nice and I don’t think it’s too expensive. Also, a non-diamond engagement ring would be really nice if you think your girlfriend would like it. I mean, sapphires come in loads of colors, and you could get her favorite color…but if she really wants a diamond, then I guess Kay would be alright. I mean, we all have different opinions, and you know your girlfriend best…

My rings are from Kays. I do see some drawbacks, but buying from Kays worked for us.
Pros
*Buy the warranty - no matter what happens they will fix/clean/resize for no additional charge
*No matter where you move - Kay has stores all over the US
Cons
*can be more expensive with a lesser quality
A ring is a ring, she should love it anyway! And in the future it is always an option to upgrade!

Kay Jewlers is a good place. But my boyfriend my ring at a Mall. Not a strip Mall. He bought it from a place called Roger Hollands. It was a white gold 10kt ring with 2 diamonds for $106.00 They also gave a certificate of it saying it was certified diamonds. Just the idea of him asking and buying me a ring was good enough for me.

No, I would not be disappointed. I would be thrilled with whatever you were nice enough to give me.
But I would also try and look at places other than mall and chain jewelers. It does you no good to pay less for a diamond if you’re going to get a crappy one. I would rather receive a smaller, better diamond than a large cloudy or cracked one.
Go to independent, reputable jewelers in your area, tell them what you want to spend and they will help guide you through the process.
Bluenile.com and danforthdiamond.com are supposed to be good as well.
Is your girlfriend dead-set on getting a diamond? You could get her a large, nice-quality alternate gemstone to save some money.
If you’re looking for a one-carat diamond, see if you can save some money by getting something slightly smaller than an even carat. Maybe in the .80s or something like that … to the naked eye, it’ll look like a full carat, but those few points can save you some serious cash.

I pointed out engagement rings from Meijer to my fiance yesterday, I would be thrilled with something from kays. I think you might get a better deal at a non-chain jeweler though, so check out some local ones and see what’s there, too. You never know what you might find.

I would be because I KNOW you can get better quality in other places and Kay charges too much for it’s low quality rings! Kay is considered a low-end retailer and even its best diamond rings are considered barely acceptable by people who know what they are talking about. Personally, I would rather have a smaller, higher quality diamond than a large low quality diamond.
Here’s some links to rings that are higher quality, less than $3000 and at least .75 carats:
