I want to get pregnant around jan of next year. My husband and I are going on a second honeymoon cruise that is two weeks long to Costa Rica, Panama, and south america. I thought there might be a lot of romance going on and maybe I should quit taking the pill prior to the cruise? Or do you think with us drinking and doing adventurous activities like parasailing and cave tubing it would be better to wait til after the cruise to ttc? We leave Dec 21st and come home jan 2nd. Also I take Yaz for PMDD for birth control but last year when I got pregnant right after quitting yaz ( like within a week I was pregnant) the pregnancy resulted in a miscarriage so I wanted some space in quitting the birth control and pregnancy this time around. Thanks!

I would continue the birth control until after the trip… otherwise you are looking at the possibility of being pregnant while ON the trip. If that happens, there will be no drinking or adventurous activities.

You might get off BC a couple months early to get it out of your system, but be careful about timing of sex and also that you use alternate form of BC and start trying in January… or even in December while on that cruise.

I would wait until Dec 25th to stop taking it. That way if you got pregnant it wouldnt happen for a few days after you had stopped taking the pill I would assume and youd be safe to drink, parasail, cave tube etc. But you may also start your period which might be a bummer, so I’d say 2 choices, either stop Dec. 15th so you can have a full period before and be ovulating while your out there, or stop at the end of the trip so you can get pregnant on your way home

I would wait until after your trip. I traveled while a few weeks pregnant, and I wouldn’t want to go through that again. From the stress of miscarrying a foreign country, to the tiredness and the worry of doing anything that could harm the baby… Not fun!

Whatever your answer is I hope you’re taking prenatals right now, since you are planning your pregnancy you should build your body up in preparation.
