Most reputable jewelry stores buy their diamonds from the same wholesalers. So the quality of the diamond isn’t related to the store’s name–it’s listed on the grading certificate. Look for a grading report from one of the most reputable gemological laboratories. Usually that’s GIA for most diamonds, especially round shaped ones. AGS is considered the industry leader for princess cut diamonds. GIA and AGS are the "top two" in the United States, but if you live outside the U.S., some people prefer other laboratories.

After you’re certain of the quality, plug the diamond’s characteristics into a diamond search engine, like http://www.diamondpriceguru.com/ or Pricescope. Each of them checks the diamond prices at 10 or so different retailers. So, you’ll instantly see the competition’s prices and know whether the place where you are shopping is offering a fair price or not.

I won’t recommend one store over another. It all depends on what kind of diamond you want to eventually buy. Some stores focus on a specific market segment (clarity ranges VVS2 and higher; unusual shapes; only diamonds near the 1-carat weight, etc.). So, if you compare prices at a bunch of stores, one will have the best price for a .75-carat, H-color, VS2, round "very good" cut grade, but the next store has the best price on oval, .75-carat, H-color VVS1, "ideal" cut grades. Shopping around is the smartest advice I can give. The search engines do a lot of it for you

    I hope this helps.

Mine is from Bluenile.com. We got a really great quality stone at an amazing price, and they had sidestone settings with rubies, which is EXACTLY what I wanted.

Never go to a mall store as these are the biggest rip offs. Besides ebay and other on lines that give you a zircon if you are lucky

The best place to buy an engagement ring is not a jewelry store. Purchasing a ring online saves you tons of money and is 100% hassle-free. Seriously… you can get the same quality engagement ring for up to 30% less.

    Try http://www.bluenile.com or http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/

I recommend James Allen engagement rings. The website has actual photographs of each and every ring so you really can’t go wrong.

    Good luck!
