Obviously it didn’t work out between me and my ex and now I need to figure out how to get the most money for the ring. Thoughts?

Make sure that your ex doesn’t want the ring back. A number of states legally require you to return it if he does. It doesn’t matter who ended the engagement as far as these laws are concerned, so you need to do some checking before you try to sell the ring.

if you don’t need the money right away then the best idea is to save it, and sell it when you are ready to get engaged again. most jewelry stores will give you almost what you (or fiance) paid for it, and you can put that towards a bigger better ring. but if you don’t want to do that, or you need the money now or just want it gone try craigslist before a pawn shop, ebay too. but all of those won’t give you have as much as waiting and selling it to a jewelry store. zales and kay still take them and put the money towards other jewelry but again it’s getting something else, not money so it depends on what you need, money, or just to get it gone.

It is really hard to sell an engagement ring and get paid for the value of the ring. I know because my sister had a broken engagement (he let her keep the ring since he owed her money). I would talk to the jeweler first and see what they can do for you. Otherwise, I might just hold onto the ring until the right woman comes along. You can always reset the diamond(s) in a new setting.

I would try and sell it to a jeweler, as they will likely pay more than anyone on Ebay or craigslist, and you aren’t likely going to get much at a pawnshop. A jewleer will be more knowledgeable about the rings value and be able to offer you a fairer price, but you will likely not recoup the full cost of the ring as they are looking to profit from the deal as well.
