Hey everyone! I have a quick question… my wedding is planned for December 18, 2010 and I was wondering when I should start looking for wedding dresses? I’m planning on losing about 20-30 pounds between now and my wedding so anything you can tell me would help! :)

    Thanks

I would start looking now. I planned on losing weight before my wedding, and because of stress, I managed to only lose a couple pounds, no matter how much time I put in at the gym! Any smart bride will tell you that a dress can always be altered to fit if you lose a lot of weight. Besides, my wedding dress took almost 9 months to come in after it was ordered. I ordered it on September 25th and it came in on June 20th for my July 11th wedding. I freaked out because it came in just 3 weeks before my wedding and we had to squeeze in alterations for it (it fit perfectly except I’m short so it needed to be hemmed). Also, my dress had a corset style back, which gives you a little more leeway because it can easily be adjusted to perfectly fit depending on how tightly or loosely you are laced up.

Start shopping now because some dresses take a long time just to come in. You don’t want to end up like me, freaking out, because your dress came in really close to your wedding!

ok i almost had a heart attack i thought u meant THIS december i was like WOMAN ITS TOO LATE. haha k well usually you shop about 8 months before your wedding, cuz it takes 6 months or 7 to get a dress shipped to you and all the altering etc.
    so perhaps in around May-ish?
and good luck with loosig the weight :D

i’d start looking about 5-6 mos ahead of time. especially start early if the dress will be made for you, or if you’ll have to order it, so you can get it back, make alterations, etc.

and start getting in shape NOW! everyone plans to do this, but few actually do. walk 1-2 mi per day three days a wee, stop drinking regular soda and switch to Diet or water/tea, and reduce sugar/carbs/fast food intake, so only 1 bagel per day, 1 donut per day, and very little to no fast food.

hope that helps! congratulations! and enjoy!

I’d say that you should start shopping around for different styles in January, but hold off on ordering until about March or so. That way, you’ve given yourself some time to lose weight. Once the dress is ordered, though, try not to lose too much weight because the alterations will be costly and could ruin the basic shape of the dress.

I would say 5-6 months before the wedding. That allows time for searching for a style and having fittings as you lose weight.

    Good luck :)

You can check the wedding dress collection of Paul’s Bridal.
Paul’s Bridal is a couture of high quality wedding dresses, prom dresses, bridesmaid dresses, evening dresses, quinceanera dresses and cocktail dresses. Its dresses can be made to orders according to custom measurements of its customers or standard sizes. It can deliver wedding dresses in one month after customers place orders.

I would go shopping around for dress styles now and try stuff on, but not order until probably March or April if you are having the dress shipped. But if you buy a dress at a place like David’s Bridal then they will probably have a dress in stock already. If a dress isn’t in stock, I would think there is about a 5 month average to have a gown ordered from pretty much anywhere.
But alterations if they are extensive will take about a month, so you want to be as close to wedding size as possible when you order. I recommend not using David’s for alteration btw, they are very expensive. My dress was $215 to be hemmed and bustled, although it was a complicated dress w/ 7 layers. My FSIL’s more simple dress was $120 to be hemmed, taken in at the sides for her ridiculous skinniness, and minor fabric sewn on to plunging neckline for modesty at a random cleaner place.

I do agree that the corset back will give you more leeway when lacing it up, so you can give or take about an 8 pound margin. Some dresses are even made of a stretchy fabric which could help also, it is less traditional but I’ve seen them.
