Such a sophisticated question. Why are you buying the ring? It’s a token of your love and affection for your beloved. What matters to his? price, size, color, clarity, cut, style? the box it comes in? You have to buy your ring to make your beloved happy. It’s for his and not really for you.

for instance, you may get the best buy at Costco. Nobody who ever sees the ring would know the source. And some diamonds come from the same sorts of mines anyway. On the other hand, the setting does matter and a jeweler like Tiffany, for a price, gives you a very special setting also.

But if good quality and fair price is the ticket why not look at Costco? If the box and style matters - you may’t beat Tiffany….

anything local is always better, since shipping something like that can be a problem. You have to put special insurance on something like that, and if it gets lost, then you’re stuck till the insurance can get around to paying for it…think that helps!

If you live in a large city, like Chicago, they have a Diamond District. you may look at loose stones and settings, or create something yourself.

I have friends that have bought on line and they have been breathtaking!

Like the other person mentioned…that little blue box from Tiffany’s is a dream come true for some!!
    (I’d love it!)

When you are leaving a store, there are usually machines with gumballs, superballs, and so on. They usually have the best selection for you to pick up with your spare change.

It depends how much you are willing to spend. If there is no price limit then go to Tiffany’s the prices are up through the roof (in particular because of the name brand) but if you want something more affordable try Fred Meyer Jewelers, Kay Jewelers, Zales, Jewelry Exchange.

Ask around for recommendations for local jewelers. you may’t go wrong with Tiffany, but you’ll pay for it. In Philadelphia go to Golden Nugget Jewelers and ask for Mary.
