Grand Wailea Resort is very nice for a all amenity property, but is a bit removed from the nightlife of Lahaina, but that may be what you’re looking for.

For Ka’anapali….any of the hotels on that beach…with Ka’anapali Beach Hotel being a little older, but a bit more authentic.

For a real treat, consider the quiet and solitude of the Hotel Hana Maui near where my place is. This is a very upscale hotel nestled in the Hana community.

Nowhere near inexpensive starting at $400 a night for the "garden view rooms", but if price is not a concern, then it’s well worth going for the oceanfront rooms at $1,200 per night. This hotel may be the best "value" in Maui when it comes to being pampered. Great Spa…Many celebs vacation here due to the solitude and respect for privacy. In fact, several well-known famous celebs live in the community for that reason alone.

For a very special treat…and if the amenities of a resort are not a factor, consider renting a house. You can cook your own meals…and have a massuse come over to give you and yours a "side-by-side" massage outdoors right in the privacy of your own back yard. Several massuses are available in the community and most are commissioned by the hotel.

If you like the idea of an upcountry experience, try Kula Lodge…near the 3,000 foot elevation on Haleakala. Temps are cooler…especially at night dipping into the 50’s, but the rooms have cozy fireplaces. Views are phenominal.

    Enjoy your trip!

I would highly recommend the Grand Wailea Resort and Spa. It has wonderful facilities and beautiful and romantic grounds that my wife and I have enjoyed while staying there twice in the past few years when we jump over from Kauai for a visit. And, I am sure that the hotel staff would be happy to help you arrange for special items like flowers, wine, etc to help you celebrate your 25th wedding anniversary. If money is no object, maybe you should try one of their suites!! Congrats!!

Personally, I like staying in places like vacation condos that provide a full kitchen, laundry, etc. They have all the amenities you would find at home. You just need to buy food and booze. I don’t particularly like eating out all the time, so a kitchen is a must. I have a time share in Kahana right on the water. The units are at least 1600 square feet with good sized lanais looking out to the ocean.

As far as where to stay, I think west Maui is the best. Kaanapali is a good place and it’s close to Lahaina. And, you can get very nice accommodations. But, it’s kind of like a master planned community. Same with the bigger resorts down south in Kiehei and Wailea.

I actually think it’s a little sterile of an environment for my tastes. But, some people really like it. I prefer the stretch of the Lower Honoapiilani Highway, especially Honolowai and Kahana.
